Race day is coming. The ocean won’t forgive those that show up with the wrong fin. If you want to be able to manage your board in and out of the surf zone, and around buoys ocean side, this is the fin for you.
The Byron Kurt fin is more stable than the Jamie Mitchell Fin, and has a wider base, as well. Both are solid additions to your race fin quiver. You never know what the race day conditions will have in store for you. Best to be prepared. If you show up on race day, and there are quite a few buoy turns, then the Jamie Mitchell fin may be a better choice for the course. However, if the course is a straight N/S out & back scenario, with only 1 or 2 turns, then the Byron Kurt fin will provide more glide and get you additional strokes per side.
Most SUPs come stock with a generic dolphin style plastic fin that is inefficient in race and even all-around situations. Maybe what you need is not a new board, but simply a better fin.
